Fridhem was built in 1890 and has been gently renovated to preserve its charm, while at the same time using eco-friendly power and gardening systems as well as a state of the art gigabit Internet connection to “live lightly”. Fridhem is based in the beautiful village of Stjärnsund, Dalarna approximately 200 km northwest of Stockholm. Stjärnsund is known for its rich history of creativity and progressive thinking stretching back to 1700, and was the home of one of Sweden’s best known inventors – Christopher Polhem. If you’d like to connect with other people it’s good to know that Fridhem is a course centre and hostel focusing on events such as yoga, qi gong, dance as well as nature related courses such as forest gardening and permaculture. So there’s always something interesting happening here! Accommodation Each bedroom has 2 single beds a work desk and chair a window onto the garden shared access to showers and toilets Our newly renovated co-living kitchen has 2 induction cookers, an oven, a microwave and lots of refrigerator / freezer space as well as all the utensils and equipment needed to prepare meals. It’s a great place to meet fellow community co-workers in front of the open fire and share a “fika” (coffee break). Shopping etc. There is a fully-equipped country store in Stjärnsund just a few minutes work from Fridhem that is also a parcel delivery / pickup point. There’s always someone you can get a ride with if you need to go shopping in Hedemora at the supermarket and/or chemist Weather It can be quite cold in the winter here (down to -20C) so good warm weather gear is important (including boots).

While it may not offer the preferred space for larger groups, it has been a perfect fit for our family of 4-5 over the past 80 years, or so.
